My Background
After 18 years in nursing leadership roles in academic healthcare settings in Boston, I founded Connaughton Consulting in 1997. My consulting practice specializes in executive coaching, leadership development and strategic planning. To my work I bring a rich tradition of patient centered care, professional nursing practice, value for interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring and development of individuals and teams.
I was the staff nurse that is often written about today: poised to leave the profession of nursing in the mid-70’s when work environments and nurse leaders failed to support my practice. My father challenged me at the time to see what was possible and to become the leader that I envisioned and yearned for rather than quitting. His wisdom and faith in me propelled me towards a career dedicated to leadership: my own as well as developing and supporting others. I have had extraordinary teachers and mentors along the way who helped to shape my leadership practice. They shared a common understanding that leadership is a lynchpin in the health care system yet it is frequently undervalued. I believe that the best contribution I can make to health care is to support its leaders to reach their full potential. This is my professional purpose, promise and passion.
